KULA is:
Liz Jeanette - Vocals
Ryan Janke - Drums
Mike Wendland - Guitar
Eric Fortier - Bass
Jeanette and Fortier met in Los Angeles in the summer of 2011, both playing with the group Your Dads Kids for a year until dismantling in the summer of 2012. The two continued to write songs, and were soon joined by drummer Ameenah Kaplan and guitarist Mike Wendland to complete the line-up of KULA.
This experienced foursome comes together after having played with a wide variety of artists including Rihanna, Adam Lambert, Ty Taylor, Macy Gray, Brenda Lee Eager, and Isiah "Ikey" Owens. The resulting sound of this unique foursome is a blend of rock and soul with progressive compositions, innovative rhythms and tasteful obscurity.
KULA has been featured at El Cid, Silverlake Lounge, Harvard & Stone, Boardner's, The Mint, Molly Malone's, Loaded, The Good Hurt, Lot 1, Skinny's, Kulak's Woodshed, Obrien's Pub, Room 5, Old Towne Pub, State Social House, The Dresden, The House of Blues, Whisky A Go-Go, the King King, Dragonfly, Rusty's Surf Ranch, and more...
In May 2015, Kaplan relocated to Atlanta after writing, recording, and performing with KULA for 2 years. Ryan Janke, the super-human rhythm purveyor, has since assumed drumming duties for the band. KULA independently records at Beer City Studios in Van Nuys, CA operated by Wendland. Their debut self-titled EP was released in February 2014, followed by their sophomore release KULA II in August 2015. KULA is currently writing, recording, and playing live around LA. Expect a new EP by Fall 2016...
